报告摘要：
Doing research is a complex and exciting activity that can often be self-rewarding. However, it is also a job which must be learned: a PhD student, which is the apprentice in this profession, must soon get acquainted with its many different facets. In this talk I want to loosely discuss some ideas on why you may want to choose a research profession, how to cut your path in this brave new world which is waiting for bold explorers, how to write a technical paper and choose a suitable journal for publishing it, what are rules governing the widely adopted peer-reviewing system and how you can contribute to it volunteering as reviewer or editor.
报告人简介：
Alessandro Giua是意大利卡里亚里大学电子与电气工程系教授。他于1992年在美国伦斯勒理工学院获得博士学位。他因在离散事件系统和混杂系统领域作出杰出贡献而当选为电气与电子工程师协会会士（IEEE Fellow），并获得国际自动控制联合会（IFAC）颁发的Outstanding Service Award. 2017年，他还被我国政府授予中华人民共和国友谊奖。
目前，他还是国际自动控制联合会（IFAC）期刊Nonlinear Analysis: Hybrid Systems的主编，IEEE汇刊IEEE Trans. on Automatic Control的Senior Editor以及期刊Discrete Event Dynamic Systems的Department Editor.
他的研究兴趣包括离散事件系统，混杂系统，网络化控制系统，Petri网和故障诊断。在上述领域，他主持了许多国际、国家级研究项目，并发表了许多重要的研究成果。
